Existential Crisis Critters

Nihilistic Creature Comforts

Animals have always been, and likely always will be, my first love both in art and in regards to life in general. Long before I was a student at an art college, before I was filling notebook margins with silly doodles and faces, I was using my pencil to scrawl out figures that could only, in the most vague of senses, resemble a horse. I’ve come a long way since then, but my sketchbooks are still filled with all sorts of critters, in various stages of rendering and realism.

Along with drawings and anatomy studies, the sketchbook has become a place of various musings as well, as I comment on my own work, scrawl down the lyrics of whatever music I’m listening to at the moent, and occasionally ramble into my own sort of visual diary.

I have always struggled with anxiety and depression, my thoughts more often than not turning into existential crises and philosophical inner dialogues, but taking these thoughts and writing them down and physically looking at them has become a ritual of sorts for me.

These stickers are a compilation of some of my favorite sketches, and their accompanying thoughts. It’s definitely not for everyone, friends are often more interested in the little filler designs than the actual animals, but this project was more for me than anyone else, to be honest, an acceptance of me and my art and the journey I’ve taken to get to where I am today.
