The Starland
Entertainment District

Reimagining the Starland area as Savannah’s focal entertainment district and cultural hub

Savannah, GA is a very popular little city, both for tourism and residential purposes, but for all its successes it has always lacked a central entertainment district, a place to promote and hold community events and promote local commerce. A professor tasked us with filling this gap and creating theoretical promotional material for whatever location we ended up choosing.

The Starland District is a creative hub within the city, full of local craftsmen and SCAD alumnus and a thriving student population running throughout. It seemed only natural to host the entertainment district there as well, to promote and elevate the storefronts and restaurants already there.

Looking back at the origin of Starland and the old dairy building that kickstarted the creation of the district, I felt it was important to keep the star as a primary symbol, but the rest was inspired by what Starland looks like today, full of brightly-painted buildings and colorful characters. The color palette was pulled from local murals and houses and is used liberally throughout the project to really emphasize how vibrant and wonderful and creatively driven Starland is.

Everything is meant to be bright wihout being fluorescent, playful without being childish. I wanted to push this kind of elevated, artsy, but still family-friendly vibe in order to reach the widest audience possible without losing the original soul of the Starland Area.
